The Access Project This Boston-based nonprofit helps people throughout the country negotiate unaffordable medical bills, as well as conducts and compiles research on a variety of health care policy issues nationally and by state.

The Coalition’s Honorary Co-Chairmen are former Presidents George Bush and Jimmy Carter.

HealthInsuranceInfo.net Contains regularly updated consumer guides for getting and keeping health insurance for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, written by The Georgetown University Health Policy Institute.

U.S. News & World Report Best Health Plans This annual ranking of U.S. health plans by U.S. News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance, managed care’s leading accrediting and standards-setting body, presents a searchable database of the top-ranking Commercial, Medicare or Medicaid insurance plans. Scores are based on the results of consumer satisfaction surveys and on objective measures of success in preventing and treating illness as compared with the average plan.

National Legislative Association on Prescription Drug Prices A nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in order to assist legislators who seek to work jointly across state lines to make prescription drugs more affordable and accessible to people in the United States, especially by reducing prescription drug prices.

The Prescription Project Led by Community Catalyst in partnership with the Institute on Medicine as a Profession, the Project seeks to eliminate conflicts of interest created by industry marketing by promoting policy change among academic medical centers, professional medical societies and public and private payers. In addition the Project will advance state and national level policy solutions.

Stateline.org Funded entirely by The Pew Charitable Trusts as a public service, this website, staffed entirely by professional journalists, was originally envisioned primarily as a resource for newsmen and newswomen who cover state government. Proposed to arm these news-gatherers with timely tips and research material on state policy innovations and trends, enabling them to make their reporting more informative and useful to consumers.

Policy Research

Bipartisan Policy Center A non-profit organization that was established in 2007 by former Senate Majority Leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell in order to develop policy solutions that make sense for the nation and can be embraced by both parties. The Leaders’ Health Care Project seeks to develop and promote policies that can attract bipartisan support from policymakers and lay the necessary foundation for providing all Americans access to quality, affordable health coverage. The project is guided by some of the country’s leading health care experts and will create opportunities for practical dialogue and cooperative solutions on some of the key challenges facing the nation’s health care system.

Consumer Reports An independent non-profit organization whose website features ratings and recommendations on thousands of products and services in categories including health and fitness.

HealthGrades The leading healthcare ratings organization, providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals.
